Each time a significant honors show nears, there’s always an outcry for introducing additional classifications to recognize unsung work and satisfy the passions of fans who have specialized interests.
A fellow writer made the case for a horror game category. That would rule. So would board games, which is a passionate advocate's mission. Yet I need to apologize in advance for pushing forward because like all blinkered fanatics, there's a strong justification for why my demand stands as crucial and significant. This is the request: We need a classification for brain-teasing titles.
Organizing Gaming Categories
Categorizing art by genre is not a science; it’s very subjective, and inevitably generate discussions resulting in unclear classifications. There’s a reason film award organizations steer clear of genre categories. But it is an unavoidable compromise for the industry of gaming, that demonstrate such variety they hardly constitute as a single art form.
To recognize the complete range of gaming accomplishments to be recognized, and to ensure all game types to compete fairly, classification by type becomes crucial.
Present Award Structure
Prominent interactive entertainment events offer these classifications covering Action, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Fighting, Sim/Strategy, plus athletic and racing experiences. Collectively, these six categories effectively encompass many game types, making space possible for numerous titles.
Not so for puzzle games. There’s simply nowhere for their placement. Think about these outstanding current releases, all very different: structural challenges in a particular game, fast-paced pattern recognition of another game, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles from additional release. What category would fit them between these six categories? Simply put, no category fits.
Acknowledgment Issues
Many instances occur outstanding logic titles launched regularly lacking appropriate categories during gaming ceremonies, unless they happen to qualify classification types such as Mobile Game, VR/AR Game, and the highly challenging independent game categories.
- One classic puzzle game got overlooked for anything that year
- Another imaginative release was excluded in 2019
- Popular arranging title received no acknowledgment recently
- Just some brain-teasers barely qualified for niche award types
Value of Brain-Teasers
These are often compact experiences, yet the craft in brain-teasers is of massive significance. Well-known matching games count as most engaged experiences worldwide and have been for an extended period.
The legendary block-stacking game competes with popular creative games for the title of most purchased experience; it’s also in the running as greatest title ever. Puzzle games are foundational within interactive entertainment, and engaging with diverse game types.
Proposal and Rationale
Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter that issue. You could fill multiple candidates engaging, different, qualified experiences each ceremony simply — perhaps, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave numerous deserving experiences.
Restating the point, these represent titles lacking appropriate categories during prominent ceremonies. Puzzle game makers function at the demanding boundary game development, producing among the purest expressions within interactive entertainment. Just like film action specialists, they warrant appreciation. Don't make them wait decades.
